Whether it’s the rich history and laying claim to being the oldest city in the U.S. or the year round sunshine and being positioned just off the Atlantic Ocean, living in St. Augustine certainly has its advantages. Boating and water spots enthusiasts love the easy access to all the rivers, canals, and waterways that weave their way through the landscape, and those who prefer to stay on solid ground enjoy having some of the nation’s best golf courses right in their own backyard. And if you’re specifically looking for a home in one of St. Augustine’s spectacular golf course communities, here’s where we think you should begin your search.
Palencia
Built and developed back in the early 2000s, Palencia is widely celebrated for being one of Jacksonville’s premier golf course communities. Encompassing roughly 1,450 acres, Palencia was designed to feel more like a village than just simply a golf course community, which is why you’ll find around 600,000 square feet of office space and 300,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space throughout this sprawling development.
The par 72 golf course at Palencia provides amazing views of the Intracoastal, not to mention all the townhouses, garden homes, and stunning single-family homes and estates that line the course’s lush green fairways.
King & Bear at World Golf Village
Named for its designers, Arnold Palmer (“The King”) and Jack Nicklaus (“Golden Bear”), the King & Bear golf course and community consists of 14 separate residential communities and a spectacular community clubhouse that includes a swimming pool, tennis courts, patio verandas, and a fabulous children’s play area.
Prospective home buyers will find both condos and single-family residences inside King & Bear, although the majority of homes are detached single-family homes. Size-wise, an average King & Bear home measures right around 3,600 square feet but some of the larger estate style homes offer more than 9,000 square feet. In terms of home prices, every now and then you might see a home listed for under $1 million but most on the market fall somewhere between $1 million and $1.2 million.
Marsh Creek
If you’re not exactly sure what you’re looking for in a new home yet but know being inside a golf course community is a must, consider starting your search at Marsh Creek. Home styles and sizes vary quite a bit in Marsh Creek, providing buyers with plenty of desirable options that fit a variety of needs.
Smaller homes in Marsh Creek all have at least 3 bedrooms and two bathrooms and some include views of the course. Look for these types of homes to start in the upper $700,000s, especially if they’re right alongside a fairway. But if you need a little extra living space, larger estate-style homes with over 4,000 square feet also have a presence at Marsh Creek and will likely ask close to $1.1 million.
Grovewood at World Golf Village
Like King & Bear, the GroveWood community is also part of World Golf Village. Included in this particular portion are 122 single family homes that sit on wider, more spacious homesites that are at least 75 feet wide and 150 feet deep.
Along with spacious homes that typically include 4 to 6 bedrooms 3 to 5 bathrooms, we especially love GroveWood because it’s one of the quieter, lower-traffic communities in all of World Golf Village. Homes in GroveWood also have low HOA dues, generally $500 on a quarterly basis, despite providing easy access to all of the world class amenities World Golf Village has to offer.
South Hampton
South Hampton is a 799-home community that continues to be a favorite among St. Augustine golf course home buyers. With over 100 acres of parks, lakes, and green spaces, South Hampton definitely has more of a quaint, country setting than more densely designed golf course communities in the area.
Along with an 18-hole Mark McCumber golf course, South Hampton also has adult and children’s pools, walking trails, tennis and basketball courts, and even a soccer field for residents to use and enjoy. Homes in South Hampton are also smaller and more affordable, with starting prices typically in the mid to upper $300,000.
St. Johns Golf & Country Club
In many ways, the St. Johns Golf & Country Club is exactly what a southern country club should be. Homes throughout the community use classic architectural styles and the 18-hole, Clyde Johnston designed golf course is pristine in every way imaginable. We also love the community’s convenient location, which is close to I-95 and also just a short drive to St. Augustine Beach as well.
On the real estate side of things, look for most homes in St. Johns Golf & Country Club to offer between 4 and 6 bedrooms, up to 5,000 or even 6,000 square feet, and price between $600,000 and over $3 million.
