Best Neighborhoods in St. Augustine FL

St. Augustine is one of Florida’s most cherished gems, as it is not only the oldest city in the United States, but also an incredibly popular destination for natives and guests alike. St. Augustine contains a wide assortment of unique neighborhoods that each offer their own signature flavor, attractions, and history. Whether you are a lifelong resident or new to the area, these St. Augustine neighborhoods are worth exploring.

Historic Downtown

The heart of St. Augustine, Historic Downtown is where the bulk of the city’s dining, shopping, hotels, and attractions can be found. This region is the oldest part of St. Augustine and some buildings in Historic Downtown date as far back as the 1700s. The neighborhood is extremely walkable and a day spent wandering its streets will take you past beautiful churches, museums, and a number of places to enjoy live music. From Historic Downtown’s bayfront you can take in stunning views of the Matanzas Bay or stroll along the Matanzas River. Historic Downtown is included on the National Register of Historic Places and is accompanied by more than twenty other locations within the neighborhood.

King Street District

King Street is where you’ll find the most unique and eclectic shopping district in all of St. Augustine. King Street features architecture that dates back to the early 1900s, as it was once one of the most bustling business districts for local workers. Today, King Street’s collection of restaurants and shops offer everything from vintage furniture to seafaring essentials. Patrons of King Street can commemorate the occasion with a tattoo or enjoy a meal at one of several family-owned restaurants. With free parking and a collection of retail shops, breweries, and eateries unlike any other part of St. Augustine, King Street District is not one to skip over.

Lincolnville

While Lincolnville technically falls within the Historic District, the neighborhood can be considered a treasure all its own. Lincolnville was founded in the aftermath of the Civil War, and the neighborhood became home to many of the area’s most eminent Black professionals and business owners. Today, many of Lincolnville’s countless Victorian homes feature plaques honoring former residents who made a lasting impact on the community as well as the country. Visitors will find that the Lincolnville neighborhood is home to quaint bed and breakfasts and cafes, and offers easy access to the Plaza de la Constitucion, located on the waterfront.
