Jacksonville Neighborhoods With Fixer Upper Homes

Buying a home in a major city like Jacksonville can be incredibly expensive, especially in a hot market where buyer competition is strong. But one way to save money and build equity fast is to invest in a fixer-upper, and there are so many areas in the Jacksonville area rich with opportunity. Explore some of the best neighborhoods to find fixer-upper deals and you’ll get the biggest return on your real estate investment.

Lackawanna

The historic Jacksonville suburb of Lackawanna dates back to the early 20th century, its origins tied to the development of the growth of the Florida Central Railroad. Though the neighborhood was prosperous until the 1960s, an economic downturn drove the prices of the homes down considerably. Today Lackawanna remains a working-class neighborhood and has many traces of its glory days that still linger in the signs and storefronts that populate the area. Home prices are lower than other neighborhoods in the region, so you can definitely find a fixer-upper at a great price.

Brentwood

Once the site of a political battleground during the fight for civil rights, today the Jacksonville neighborhood of Brentwood boasts some of the most impressive residential architecture rich with the region’s history. Brentwood is also home to one of the Urban Core’s biggest public parks and after a century, the area continues to be a welcoming place for people of all backgrounds and ethnicities. Simply put, purchasing a fixer-upper in historic Brentwood is bound to give you a huge return on your investment thanks to its rich history and awesome architecture alone.

Longbranch

Located right beside the St. Johns River, the neighborhood of Long Branch offers residents a relaxed suburban feel. Homes in the area are reasonably priced, and it’s not uncommon to find a home in need of a little tender love and care with a lot of potential. With a population of only 1,300 residents, Longbranch tends to feel more like a small town than a bustling suburb. Many Longbranch residents tend to rent their homes instead of their own, but that doesn’t mean fixer-uppers aren’t in ample supply.

Panama Park

With its origins dating back to the early 1800s, Panama Park was home to Florida’s first steam-powered saw mill and, by the end of the 19th century, Cummer Lumber Mill. For many years, Panama Park was a highly sought after destination for fishing and sailing. Today, Panama Park is in the position to see a massive influx of new residents and commerce as a result of the proposed new commuter rail corridor. Within the Panama Park neighborhood is Panama Park, which serves a center of community for residents in the area. An investment in a fixer-upper in Panama Park is likely to yield great returns in years to come.

Grove Park

Grove Park provides residents with a nice blend of the suburban lifestyle with easy access to the heart of Jacksonville. Demographics stats suggests that people who already live in the area tend to be young professionals and retirees, and there are a number of properties for sale with lots of promise that could use a little bit of work to turn a house into a home. Most Grove Park residents own their own homes, and one of the most popular aspects of living in Grove Park is Grove park itself, which was completed in 2006 and spans 11.3 acres. Many home owners in Grove Park take great pride in maintaining their homes, so buying the most neglected house on the loveliest block is a great way to find the perfect forever home.

Eastside

Eastside, commonly referred to as Historic Eastside, borders Downtown Jacksonville to the east and is one of the city’s oldest urban core neighborhoods. If you wander around the Eastside, not only will you find Jackson’s sports and entertainment complex, but you’ll spot the Jacksonville Fairgrounds, andVyStar Veterans Memorial Arena. Project Boots, a program funded by LISC Jacksonville and LIFT JAX, was designed to help new homeowners afford down payments and learn about homeownership, setting them up for success as future homeowners in the Eastside neighborhood. To invest in a fixer-upper in the Eastside area is to invest in a small slice of Jacksonville history; so you can’t go wrong purchasing a home in this particular part of town.
